Six Flags St. Louis is set to drop its corporate brand name as part of a major ownership transition. New operator Enchanted Parks plans to rebrand the Eureka, Missouri property as Mid-America by Enchanted Parks. The move marks a return to the park’s roots; it originally opened in 1971 as Six Flags Over Mid-America before adopting its current name in 1997.
The rebranding follows a $331 million transaction involving the sale of seven regional theme parks from Six Flags to real estate investment trust EPR Properties. While Six Flags is divesting these assets, they will continue to operate under new management. Enchanted Parks, a startup based in Windermere, Florida, has been tapped to manage the Missouri location along with five other acquired properties: Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, Six Flags Great Escape, Michigan’s Adventure, and Schlitterbahn Galveston.
CEO James Harhi of Enchanted Parks has indicated that changes are on the horizon, specifically regarding the park’s intellectual property. A notable point of transition involves the future of existing DC Comics-themed attractions, which have been a staple of the Six Flags brand identity for decades. The specifics of how these rides will be repurposed or rebranded remain under review by the new ownership group.
The deal represents a significant shift in the regional amusement park landscape. By separating ownership from operations, the move reflects a growing trend in the industry where real estate investment trusts hold the physical infrastructure while specialized operators handle the guest experience and daily logistics. For park-goers, the transition signals an end to the standardized Six Flags operational model that has defined the park’s management for nearly 30 years.
While the rebranding process is underway, the park remains part of a larger portfolio of assets shifting hands. One of the seven properties involved in the EPR sale, La Ronde in Montreal, will be handled by a separate entity, La Ronde Operations, Inc. The impact of this transition on season pass holders and existing membership programs has not yet been fully disclosed by Enchanted Parks. Observers expect further details on park operations and potential capital improvements to be released as the sale closes.
