Six Flags Great Adventure Begins Construction on New Record-Breaking Launch Coaster, Replacing Kingda Ka

Construction has commenced at Six Flags Great Adventure for a new launch coaster. The attraction is scheduled to open in 2027. This development replaces Kingda Ka, which formerly held the title of the world’s tallest roller coaster.

Kingda Ka closed in November 2024. Its demolition followed in March 2025, executed through a series of controlled explosions. The ride, a notable Intamin creation, stood 456 feet high. It had operated since 2005.

Six Flags confirmed the arrival of the first track sections on site. This marks the initial visible phase of construction for the as-yet-unnamed record-breaking launch coaster. The park stated this project represents “one of the most impactful additions in our park’s history.”

Details regarding the new coaster’s specific records have not been released. However, its scale suggests a significant investment in the park’s attraction lineup. Six Flags indicated the project required extensive planning before construction began.

The global record for the world’s tallest coaster now belongs to Falcons Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia. This park opened on December 31, 2025. Falcons Flight also holds records for speed and length, signaling a new era for extreme coaster engineering within the Six Flags portfolio.

The replacement of Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure underscores a strategic focus on next-generation attractions. This follows a trend seen across the company’s properties. In recent months, Six Flags México opened the Speedway Stunt Coaster. Six Flags Over Texas completed construction on Tormenta Rampaging Run, a giga dive coaster exceeding 300 feet.

These investments aim to attract new visitors and retain existing pass holders. New, high-profile rides are crucial for maintaining competitiveness in the theme park industry. They often lead to increased attendance and per-guest spending. Ticket price adjustments frequently accompany major attraction introductions to offset development costs.

Six Flags Great Adventure is positioning itself for a significant operational shift with this new coaster. The park anticipates a major draw for guests. Further details regarding the coaster’s design, records, and features are expected in future announcements. The multi-year construction process is now underway.
