New photos circulating on social media have confirmed that the dismantling of Superman: Escape from Krypton at Six Flags Magic Mountain is underway. The images show large cranes on-site, actively removing the coaster’s iconic ride vehicles from the track and structure.
The photos, which appeared in a popular Reddit forum, provided a definitive visual confirmation for fans who have been following the news of the ride’s permanent closure. The post, titled “Superman has left the building…”, quickly garnered attention from theme park enthusiasts, with many expressing a sense of nostalgia and finality upon seeing the physical removal process.
One of the widely shared images shows a multi-ton ride vehicle being lifted by a crane away from the coaster’s 415-foot vertical spike.

A second photo gives a look at one of the vehicles suspended inside a large warehouse facility, presumably after being taken off the ride structure.
The removal of the coaster cars marks the end of an era for the park. The ride, which originally opened in 1997, was the first in the world to break the 100-mile-per-hour speed record and was a landmark attraction at Magic Mountain for over two decades.
As previously announced, the park retired the coaster due to its age and increasing difficulty in sourcing parts for maintenance. While the main tower will remain as part of the Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom ride, the removal of the coaster cars physically concludes Superman’s long and memorable run at the Southern California theme park.
