Disney Attraction, Previously Closed Now Has Big Plans

Construction continues across Walt Disney World Resort, with new rides, lands, and shows in the works. But one closed attraction is also getting some attention – the former IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at EPCOT.

The beloved nighttime spectacular ended its over 20-year run in 2019, replaced briefly by EPCOT Forever and the unpopular Harmonious. With Harmonious now closed, Disney has begun construction on a new nighttime show over World Showcase Lagoon.

Recent aerial photos from Twitter user @bioreconstruct show the latest work on the lagoon’s central pilings, which will likely support projections and lighting effects for the new show.

The upcoming show is said to incorporate fireworks, lasers, lighting, and music including classic Disney tunes. An opening timeframe has not been announced, but it is expected to debut later this year.

EPCOT has plenty else going on, like the “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” expansion and retheming of Spaceship Earth. But it’s nice to see a closed classic like IllumiNations get some attention again, even if the new show ends up totally different.

Disney has kept details closely guarded so far. But with construction visibly underway, more updates should emerge soon. Until then, EPCOT Forever continues bringing some sparkle to World Showcase nights.
